There are nearly as many different thoughts about how a person gets to heaven as there are people. However, it's important not to put our trust in our own thinking or someone else's. Our answer needs to come from God since heaven is His domain and the rules are made by Him. Those rules aren't found in the thoughts or philosophies of any man. They are found in only one place -- God's word, the Bible.

People often ask "What must I do to be saved?" The Bible tells us that if we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ we can be saved (Acts 16:30-31), but there are other scriptures that talk about salvation as well. Therefore, it must be understood that belief alone does not save us. Faith, or belief in Jesus, is just the first step toward salvation and it comes by hearing the word of God (Rom 10:17). We also need to be sorry for the bad things we have done and be willing to change our ways, turning to God for a better way; this is repentance (Luke 13:3). We must also confess to the world that Jesus is God's only son and that He is the only one who has the power to save us (Rom 10:9-10, Acts 8:37). Then we must be immersed in water, baptized, for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38; 8:38). Finally, we must continue to live a life that is faithful and pleasing to God (Heb 3:14).

So, the final word comes from God through his holy scriptures that in order to be saved and go to heaven there are just a few simple things we must do. We must:
